THE NAME ......THAT IS ..ABHAY .....

Me @ Grandpa's house.. was 9 yrs old then..

so after a while i thought about bloggin... What to write ?? That was what i was thinking about.. Then remembered about a conversation i had with Sindhya.. We were talking about our childhood days.. She had an interesting story abt her birth and i too had one or two about my childhood days.. One was about my name...I promised her that i will blog about it when i get time.. And also i told a friend whom i met in Orkut , Jayaprabha that i will blog about how i was named Abhay...

I wasn't named Abhay.. Actually was named Shyam initially... Dont know how someone can come up with a weird idea like this..

My father's name is Vijayamohan.M and my mother's name is Vijayalekshmi Pillai.. My mother had lot of bad experiences in her life coz her name started with 'V' ... Something like she was always among the last in class rolls .. Her name was the penultimate one in the call list for her job interview... Well dont ask me whats the big deal in it ... I have asked her a million times... I think its just that she didnt want to be the last one in anything.. She has got a nice attitude... May be thats why... And i am not blaming her in any way....

So my mother had this great idea that if my name started with 'A' i will be first in everything ... In class rolls,studies (yea rite.... God and me knos how i manage to pass in every exam .. :P), sports ( God were am i leadin to ??? ) and in every good stuff that one can think of and yea i almost forgot .. i would be among the first ones to be called in for the job interview...( :P)

So she told this to my achan.. Well my achan did not have any problems with my name being Shyam.. But at the same time he couldnt do much... Tried his best in arguing... NO USE... Atlast amma won... And she asked achan to find me an appropriate name.... And believe it or not it took him 2 days to find me a name that my amma also liked... My achan has an aunt who is a Bengali.. His father's brother married from Kolkata.. I think he must have got the idea about a north indian name after talkin to his uncle... And Abhay was perfect name for me according to amma.. Not many names can come before considering the alphabetical order.. And also the name is rare here in South India..

And the only time when i was not first in class rolls was when i joined my college.. Actually i came to GEC by higher option... So my name was added in the end... Roll Number 61.... Yess for the first time in my life i enjoyed being last in my class rolls.... Even the staff advisor did not bother to remove the names of people who left the college from the rolls... So there were 3 or 4 permanent absentees.... :P ... But the joy was quite short lived..... When the University hall ticket came i was again first in my rolls.. 03401001.. That was my roll number....

I still remember the day on which my 10th standard board exams started... I was already tensed like anything.. And i was just about to enter my exam hall when one of my english teachers called me .. Seetha Lekshmy teacher called me and said " Abhay the future of our students depends upon your paper. Yours is the first paper in the bundle coz u r the first person in the rolls.. And FIRST IMPRESSION is the BEST IMPRESSION .. You know that naa... So do well "... Imagine what would have been going through my mind ?? Thank god i didnt pass out right there... Well the results were excellent that year .. Out of 92 students appeared 86 got above 80 and the lowest marks i think was 76%.... Seetha Lekshmy teacher was one of the best teachers in my school and i had the privilege of being a student of her for 3 years... May be the conversation i had with her just before the exam might have unknowingly helped me to do well in the exams.... Sometimes pressure can make u do things even better.... Sometimes it may affect u too.... Well i think at that time it really helped me... It just made me think that i got to do well... And i did my exams pretty well.....

Coming back .... In the end i was named Abhay... Coming to think of it i dont think i can blame my mother at all ( clarification: I never did blame her though).. She just wanted me to be the very best... Even if it meant changing my name... Thank You Amma.. Thank You very much... For makin me unique atleast with respect to my name (:P) ....Well actually i dont know whether this name is a curse or actually a boon.... As Jayaprabha scrapped " its ur name.ABHAY.it has a definite meaning." Yea it does have a definite meaning ... And i hope i am a person just like my name...

THE EXAM FEVER.....

This will only be a small post .. Exams hav finally started.. The first one was ok. Considering the fact that i was bed ridden with viral fever, i think i did a good job.. Hope that shows in my mark list.. Talked to my sister Sindhya this evening.. And in between our conversation did i remember that i havnt blogged for a while.. So i thought abt bloggin... Since i will be busy with studies i wont be able to blog that much.. At least till 21st of this month.. Till then adieu....

CAT........ ROYALLY SCREWED....

So the " Mother of all Exams " is over.. I will not be able to make it though... Sad?? yea i am sad... Its not just me... My friends especially abhi and thakku are really sad about it... Well even though the exam was not good for us guys , we had a nice time in Calicut.. Enjoyed the stay... Wasted a lot of money like seein the stupid new Bond movie!!! The new guy is really horrible.. Stupid movie.. How can the people who made the movie come up with a total crap??? And that too a Bond movie!!! Of the 21 movies released this is bound to be the worst one ever... No gadgets at all ... Mr. Q missing... :P ... and an emotional Bond ??? Altogether a TOTAL WASTE ...
We guys had 2 good days.. The banana incident.... The goals that were fired at each other... The usual vayinottams... The photo sessions... The thendi thiriyals and all those stuff..Goin to the beach on a rainy day....The night at Baskin Robbins - eating ice creams after gettin drenched in the rain ... We are sure to miss days like these wen we get out of the college... Sure we will...

Our college released the Annual Magazine recently...
Named YOUTH- the outbursts of energy..



The magazine was really good compared to last year's one.... KUDOS to the Magazine Editor Safdar, Praveen, Ajay and many others who brought out this excellent magazine in such a short time.. NEAT JOB GUYS.....

There were many good articles but the article which i liked the most was written by our Mechanical Lecturer Mr.Abhilash Suryan.It dealt with taking Teaching as a profession.. Named Jottings on Teachings it is a must read for every student who is aspiring to become a teacher.. It gives an insight to what all qualities that a good teacher must posses . Really a nice article to read and think about. It started with a sanskrit prayer which is recited by the teacher and the disciple before proceeding to learn the wisdom of the Upanishads ... Sir provided the English translation for the Sanskrit prayer...

" May He protect us both.May He nourish us both.
May we both work together with great energy.
May our study be thorough and fruitful.
May we never hate each other.
Om Peace! Peace! Peace! "

Abhi's article Love or something like it was another interesting piece.. Not that it contained serious stuff.. But once reading it people started wondering like there is no doubt who the hero is ... 1000N wala ... But the girl??? Well there were obviously one or two names that were goin around.. The second article written by him was DO WE NEED RESERVATIONS??? Well no use to say about it.. The @$ %*^&$ at the centre will lead our country to its ruins with thier stupid social reform policies.... The third one was titled GECB Soaring High..... This one dealt with the overall academic performance of our college.. Special mention was given about the Cell for Career Guidance and Placements (CCGP) of our college.. The placement graph of our college is sky rocketing as years pass. All due to the dedicated and hard work of our very own Remesh sir who heads the CGPU and its members like Abhi , Sandeep Jose to name a few...The article also talks about the various achievers like Aravind of 2005 mechanical batch who has joined BARC... Future scientist.... Really a great achievement both for Aravind and for our college..... All the recruitment data and the average salaries offered to the students are neatly presented... Good work ABHI.....

Another interesting piece of article was by our own Vishnu's Contemporary Mainstream Cinema: The Good,the Bad and the Ugly.. All movie lovers especially those guys who like those superhuman stunts of our indian actors must read this.. No offence meant to indian cinema... There are examples of how indian film makers bring out total crap..And there are also examples mentioned about good films and actors... The comparison of indian films with the hollywood ones are really good like this one...

"Coming on the Indian Film industry and to Bollywood first it doesn't look too different from a Hollywood movie.With stories being set in US, Europe, Australia etc. and the explicit bedroom scenes, bathroom scenes and all sorts of skin displays and the latest craze,the Kissing scenes,only the language it seems is the give away.But what the Hollywood films have and the Bollywood ones lack is perfectly good reason why such stuff needs to be in the movie and it is for this very reason instead off giving a Hollywood feel its misfired towards being more like a porno."


The last pages of the magazine was dedicated to the final years (including me)... Address book actually... The following was printed in the first page of the address book..(Its a translation .. forgive me if i made any errors)

The memories are still fresh in our minds ..The first day at college .. the good times we had ... the mischiefs we committed....
Surely we will miss our campus life when we are out of college.. Barely 6 months .. that's what we have got..We will enjoy and we are gonna enjoy the campus life more than we ever did in our past 3 and a half years... Sure we will....

SHIFTED MA HOUSE.....

Atlast the construction for my new house has started....The old one is being demolished to make way for a new house...The old house was built about 35 years ago...i spent my entire childhood days there..Still do hav fond memories of that place...I am a bit sad that the same place where i used to run and play and made life hell for my parents with my mischiefs will be not be there any more... People say u got to move on... Got to adapt urself to the changes happenin around us...But then those fond memories which is still fresh in my heart.... Ah yea got to move on with our lives... Still remember something which i learned in my hindi class at school... "YEH DUNIYA JAL KE BUDBUDA JAISA HAI...YEHA SUB KUCH NASHWAR HAI..." meaning "THIS WORLD IS LIKE A DROP OF WATER..NOTHN LASTS FOREVER IN THIS WORLD"...
May be changes are for the good....I just hope that the construction of the new house is finished as soon as possible....
YEA MAY BE CHANGES ARE FOR THE GOOD......

THE CROSSROADS...

Well bfore the placements were to commence in my college we participated in an inter college cultural festival conducted by Mar Baselious College of Engineering and Technology..That was the first programme for vivek as a full fledged member of our band..Four guys,all of us from the same class...The programme was a challenge for us..without joseph our lead guitarist who was busy with his project work..no body thought that we would go for the programme without joseph..but we practiced and we did..californication,wake me up when sept ends,boulevard of broken dreams....these were the three songs that we played...we practiced..and for the first time we felt some sort of easiness in being a grp..that was something we never felt since we started the band...the practice went on fine ...

Finally the day came...The fest had a very impressive opening show ...there was a display of fireworks and the inaugration ceremony started with a bang...After that there was a performance by a band named RAGE.. they were awsome...Played my favorites - Metallica and Iron Maiden....But they took loads of time for setting thier equipments...The entire performance i guess had to be cut short..even then it was around 12 midnight wen they finished it ..So our programme that was planned to start that day was postponded to the very next day and that too morning...
The next day the programme started..Thampi the guitarist had to participate in another programme ..so he was not there ..Me,manu and vivek were waiting at the hall where our show was going to be conducted..Well we were all horror struck wen we saw who all were the judges for that day..None other than the lead guitarist for RAGE and the lead guitarist for another professional rock band named AVIAL....We selected our songs since we had bad experiences of playin ROCKIN songs in front of not so appreciating judges..for once we thought ok we are gonna play something that judges may like ...And now wen we prepare and practiced for songs like that ...here come the guys who absolutely loves ROCK....Ah tough luck..the programme started...Me and manu were like "Do we hav to play today??"And we were worried that thampi may not make it for the programme..But at the same time we were like happy coz atleast we dont need to perform in front of those guys..We were watchin the performance of other guys who were there...most of them were really gud..
Well we were selected as the last team to perform...Just bfore the penultimate band started their performance thampi came..he was also suprised to see the judges..ahh at the end we thought of just giving it a shot.....
So our performance started atlast...Dont remember wat all went on durin the show..the only thing i remmeber is that we kinda changed the playing style a bit in the middle...We switched on to reggae style of playin for boulevrd of broken dreams.. I was takin care not to look into the faces of the judges in btw our performance..anyways couldnt help lookin in to thier faces and trying to see wat thier expressions were like ..anyways the performance some how got over..guys from our college came and congragulated us..We knew we made a hell lotta mistakes..
Soon somebody came and told that we won first prize..NAAH its tooooooooo good to be true...Then soon the results were announced..To our hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeee suprise we won the SECOND prize..No idea how we did manage to win it..

but we did...

ITS BEEN A LOOOOONG TIME .........

So people really sorry about the loooong delay...Loads of stuff happened in between these days.
The most important one is that i got a job..2 actually. US Technologies and Infosys ...Both software companies and i am waiting for more (:P) ...The first interview i appeared ,simply put it was a "COMEDY OF ERRORS" .
Wipro .....That was the name of the comapny..It is one among the largest IT companies in India.Well the test i cleared it quite easily...Dont kno how i got this guy for my interview...He was just short of murdering me by askin qns ....
TRAINS..i started hating that stupid machine from that day onwards..The guy from Wipro concentrated the whole time askin qns about that damn thing...I was pretty sure that i wont get that job...And as expected i didnt ..My friends got in ..Especially Rohin,Vishnu and Abhi...Sadly Manu missed out ....
UST was an easy affair..Well to my horror and my luck i wasnt myself that day..Usually i am a kind of guy who gets tensed and bites the finger nails like anything...But UST ..GOD KNOS WAT HAPPENED...I wasnt TENSED ...I wasnt biting my nails and i even doubted if i am Abhay or not...The interview was quite fine...The interviewer asked me only HR qns unlike wat was for others ..Well Abhi and other guys got mech qns as well as puzzles ...that too tough ones..Dont relly knew wat happened ..Well he simply asked me just HR qns ..He was particularly intrested when he heard that i am a member of a rock band.....Well he asked me to substantiate with an incident to show that i am a team player..Well a band is really helpful in these cases ..I realised this fact that day...Wat else in needed to substantiate my point..I just told him that my band is the best example and blah blah blah......
So i got selected ....Not even a tech qn or a puzzle..After the results were out i realised that only two were selected by my interviewer..One was me and the other Bhavesh....TO BE FRANK I WAS DAMN LUCKY THAT DAY......................

Infosys was pretty easy... The test was easy ..Only puzzles were asked and the morning ppt had a very cute girl givin the details about infosys...After the test there was interview..I actually missed my call and i went for the interview half an hour late...(:P) and the interviewer asked wy i was late... I was like somewat sure that i am a goner..But the interviewer there was a very nice lady...I tried to impress her a lot with my usual band thing and i think she really liked wat i told abt the band....And as with UST i also put in the band as an example for substantiating various qualities ...She towards the end asked me a pretty simple puzzle for which i found the answer in a jiffy..So by this way I got my second job....

Once again i am really sorry for the long delay..I promise u all the people out there that from now on i will regularly update my blog...

I am feeling sleepy ri8 now and i got to go and get some nice sleep....
